Samhain Ritual
 
Because we will be doing a ritual for over 300 people we will not be able to cast
a traditional Samhain circle.
 
As each of you enter the Ball Room we will ask you to write the name of a loved
one you would like to honor and invite to join us for the evenings celebrations in
our AZ Witches Ball Book if the Dead.
After everyone is seated and their dinner orders taken, we will begin the evening
ritual. While a Priest or Priestess of honor carries a blessed plate of food to
the Altar for the Dead, the names of those written in the book of the dead will be
read.
 
We will then have a Crone of the Gods and Goddesses of the Dead; and a Crone of
our Ancestors come forth to invite and honor those otherworldly beings to join us.
 
As part of the Samhain Ritual, there will be plates for the Dead on each table.
This will allow each of you to offer a small portion of your feast to the
ancestors. Remember to say a blessing as you place your offering on the plate.
These plates will be carried to the Altar for the Dead after dinner. The food will
be offered to the land after the Ball is over.
 
Anyone wishing to add offerings to the Altar for the Dead is very welcome to do
so. We recommend that they only be objects that you will not expect back, such as
a Xerox copy of a photo rather than the photo it’s self. After the ball, all altar
offerings will be ceremonially buried during a Samhain Ritual of the AZ Witches
Ball Committee members on the actual night of Samhain.
 
Any coins will be donated to charity after being buried in the earth for one moon
cycle. This allows the dead to take the essence of the prosperity in the coins
which we will consecrate with prosperity once again before they
are given to charity.
 
We hope that this Witches Ball will be an event of joy, laughter and honor for all.
 
For those that are calling a Samhain circle at home on Samhain Eve, I have added a
Samhain ceremony that I have compiled from other sources and my own. I hope you
enjoy it.
